consultations and facilitate groups, workshops and classes.

Patty Kampmann, President
Patty is an industry veteran with 25 years of in-depth multi-category knowledge and experience across all facets of retail; specialty retail, catalog, ecommerce and wholesale manufacturing, with more than half of her career specifically focused on children’s products and services. Patty has a proven track record of establishing retail strategy and developing brands with work experience ranging from Fortune 500 companies to early stage start-ups. Patty began her career in Corporate Marketing at Liz Claiborne, Inc. and has held management positions at Coach, Gap, Gymboree, Esprit, and Hanna Andersson. She has first hand knowledge of fund raising, IPO and corporate acquisition and has been recognized for her leadership and ability to build and develop “Best in Class” teams. Patty’s most recent position was EVP/GMM of American Pacific Enterprises. Patty is the mother of two outstanding little boys – Jack and Ricky, and was one of the first DayOne members.
Nancy Held, RN, MS, IBCLC, Vice President of Clinical & Educational Services
Nancy earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from NYU where she first was encouraged to think about nurses expanding their roles into the community. Nancy found her passion in working with new and expectant parents as she gained experience as a labor and delivery, postpartum and well-baby nursery nurse. She later went on and became certified as a childbirth educator and lactation consultant and earned her Master's Degree as a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist from UCSF. She has spent the last 25+ years enjoying supporting new families. Nancy is married and has two wonderful adult children.
Nancy is currently living her dream of helping to get new and expectant parents off to a good start by helping to provide a place for community, support and education. She enjoys facilitating several new parents groups a week and seeing new parents for one-on-one consults.
Kelly Yee, CLC, Director of Education
Kelly earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with interest in pregnancy and early infant development. She has worked in the perinatal field for more than 8 years and is Certified as a Lactation Counselor as well as postnatal educator. Kelly joined DayOne as the Education Coordinator for Palo Alto and now manages education for all 3 centers. Kelly lives in Foster City with her husband and twin girls.

Carrie Danforth, Store Manager
Ami Burnham, LM, CMT, IBCLC, Staff Lactation Consultant
Ami is a Certified Professional Midwife, a Certified Massage Therapist, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, childbirth educator, and doula specializing in home birth, lactation consulting home visits, Swedish Esalon, Shiatsu, Jun Shin Do and prenatal and intrapartum massage. Ami teaches Breastfeeding, CPR and Childbirth Preparation classes at DayOne, facilitates a New Parent Support group, as well as sees patients for one-on-one lactation consultations
Bonnie Rosenstein, CLE, Lactation Educator, Education Coordinator
Bonnie is a UCLA trained Lactation Educator, original member of the DayOne staff and the mother of two school age children. Bonnie has worked with pregnant and new moms for over ten years. At DayOne, Bonnie coordinates classes, instructors and educational materials. She also answers breastfeeding questions at the Center and teaches the very popular Collecting & Storing Breastmilk workshop.
Sara Duskin, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant and Instructor
Sara is a British trained nurse and has worked in the maternal child health field for the past 15 years. She trained as a lactation educator through UCLA and is an Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant. Sara has organized pre-schools and child development programs locally. She has worked at DayOne since its inception and gives her "common sense" support and counsel to new parents, whom, she believes, know more than they think they know. She is married with three children, three stepchildren and five grandchildren. Sara sees parents for one-on-one consults for help with breastfeeding, sleep, starting solids and helping new parents get their families off to a good start. Sara also facilitates new parents groups and teaches the Introducing Solids workshop.
Irene Byrne, MA, Instructor
Irene Bryne, MA, is a preschool director in San Francisco and coauthor of Finding a Preschool in San Francisco and author of a second book entitled Birthing: Choices You Have to Create the Best Birth Experience For You and Your Child. Irene is the mother of two young children and teaches DayOne's very popular Finding a Preschool workshop.
Kathy Curran, ICCE, Instructor
Kathy Curran, MSW, is a Social Worker, adult educator, and ICEA certified childbirth educator who is passionate about supporting pregnant women and their partners as they prepare for the birth process and beyond. Kathy has been teaching birth preparation classes for over ten years and has an outstanding reputation for her balanced presentations of challenging issues surrounding birth. Kathy's birth classes include techniques from many different birthing philosophies. Couples leave her classes feeling supported, confident, and more relaxed and informed. She is the mother of 3 young children and teaches DayOne's Childbirth Preparation classes.
Susan Norris, CMT, Instructor
Susan is a Certified Infant Massage instructor, massage practitioner, experienced trainer and the mother of two children. She has been practicing and teaching massage for over eight years, since her babies were babies. She is committed to helping people understand and experience the lifelong benefits that nurturing touch brings. At DayOne, Susan teaches Infant Massage & Dad and Baby Massage.
Ceres Rutan, Psy.D., Facilitator
Ceres is a psychologist with an emphasis on postpartum adjustment and child development. Ceres has been leading support groups for new mothers for five years and is the mother of a baby girl. At DayOne, Ceres facilitates several weekly New Parent Support Groups and provides her special warmth and caring as she works with new families.
Emily Skaff, Newborn Care Instructor
Janet Christensen, MA
Janet is the parent of two boys and is the Director of the Auditory Oral School of San Francisco at the Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California. Janet holds a Master of Arts degree and an Education Specialist Credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing and currently teaches infant and toddler classes for children with hearing loss or who have language delays. Through personal and professional experience Janet understands the importance of developing a child’s communications skills as early as possible and has found sign language to be an effective tool to increase and enhance infant-parent communications.Dr Nancy Hsieh, DDS, MS, Instrucor
Dr. Nancy Hsieh (pronounced “Shay”) was born and raised in Los Angeles. She fell in love with the Bay Area while attending UC Berkeley where she majored in psychology. She graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry here in San Francisco in 2002. Dr. Hsieh completed her pediatric training at UC San Francisco where she was Chief Resident. During her residency, she continued her education and received a Masters in Oro-facial Sciences. Dr. Hsieh has won national and local awards for her research which involved educating dentists on recognizing the signs and symptoms of domestic violence. She has also published her research in the Journal of the American Dental Association. Her passion is treating children and making it a fun and memorable experience. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.She leads the "Your Baby's Teeth" workshop.
Caroline McGrillen, IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Facilitator, Instructor
Caroline teaches Breastfeeding and Newborn Care, she sees patients in one-on-one lactation consultations, and facilitates a New Parents Group. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and four school aged children.
Angelique Millette, PhDc, PCD/CD(DONA), Instructor
Angelique Millette is a parent coach, infant/toddler sleep and postpartum depression researcher, doula and infant/child therapist intern. For the past 10 years, she has worked with families across the Bay Area, US and Europe, answering questions related to infant/child development, infant and toddler sleep, and how parents can meet their sleep needs while helping their young ones to get the sleep they need. Angelique does not believe that there is only one method, or sleep program- no cookie cutter approach- rather she helps families by developing a unique approach that takes into account family schedule, infant/toddler developmental needs, and parenting philosophy while keeping an eye on sleep deprivation, parental overwhelm, and depression. Angelique's doctoral research is a mixed methods study addressing the intersect between infant sleep locations/methods, postpartum depression/anxiety, and attachment, and her research is part of her forthcoming book. Angelique teaches the popular "Let's Talk About Sleep" workshop.Arika Larson, Instructor
Arika holds her Life and Health Insurance licenses, her Series 7 and 63, and her Long Term Care Insurance certification. She sits on the Agent Advisory Board to the State of California's California Partnership for Long Term Care program, is a member of NAIFA, and has launched a company called Women Be Wise which focuses on supporting women and their families in creating a secure financial future. Arika now educates and empowers women and their families to manage their finances and prepare for a future of financial well being. Arika teaches the Wills, Trusts, and Life Insurance workshop.
Dr. Oded Herbsman, Instructor
Dr Oded Herbsman completed medical school at Duke University and pediatric residency at the University of California in San Francisco. He served as Medical Director of Pediatric Inpatient Services, Chief of the Pediatric Hospitalist Division, and Vice Chair for the Department of Pediatrics at California Pacific Medical Center. He helped found the Sutter Health Childhood Asthma Initiative to standardize guidelines for the treatment of asthma. He is a certified medical acupuncturist and Chinese herbal practitioner with a special interest in complementary and alternative medicine. Dr. Herbsman is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and resides in Marin County with his wife and two children. He teaches the "All About Vaccines" workshop.
Zachary Weiner, Instructor
Zac began his career in emergency services as an Emergency Medical Technician working for American Medical Response in San Mateo County. He has served in many different public safety capacities since then, including Dispatcher, EMT Supervisor, CPR Instructor and EMT Instructor. Zac combines a background in public safety with a strong background in emergency planning theory. Prior to founding The Alexia Group, he was the Program Manager for Emergency Response Planning at Annuvia, a national safety consulting firm and training provider. He is the current Chair of the City of Berkeley Disaster and Fire Safety Commission.
Kristin Burgess, Ph.D, EMT-P, Instructor
Kristin holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has experience teaching in both college and community settings, in topics ranging from Physics & Astronomy to First Aid & CPR, and research experience in statistical analysis of large data sets. Kristin's interest in Emergency Services began in 2005 while living in New Jersey, when she joined the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. After moving to California, she completed her Paramedic training and currently works as a Technician in the Emergency Department at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley in addition to her position at the Alexia Group.
DayOne Palo Alto Team
Cherie Zappas Tannenbaum, NP, IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Facilitator
Cherie attended UCLA and El Camino College, and upon graduation, practiced as an RN in a family practice office. She later went on to graduate from CSULA and became certified as a Nurse Practitioner, maintaining her focus on Family Practice. About ten years ago, Cherie sought out further education in order to help families maximize their potential for successful breastfeeding, and became certified as a Lactation Educator. She is currently completing certification as an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
As participants in her parenting and breastfeeding groups and individual consultations quickly learn, Cherie is a knowledgeable, warm and empathic professional who dedicates herself to helping DayOne patrons make some of their first important parenting decisions. Cherie is married and the mother of 4 wonderful, college-age daughters (2 of whom are twins) and lives in Menlo Park.
Ali Byrd, EMT-B, Instructor
Ali is a certified MedicalTechnician and Anesthesia Technician and a certified American Heart Associaiton CPR Instructor. He has been teaching CPR classes through his own business for years and is a proud father of two. Ali teaches the highly recommended CPR classes at DayOne.
Arika Larson, Instructor

Bill White, Instructor
Bill White, Certified Baby Sign Language Educator and father of two, is passionate about the field of sign language. Students walk out of his workshop introduced to over thirty signs - and eager to learn more. Bill teaches both the Introduction to Baby Sign Language and Dad and Baby Sign Language classes.
Lisa Pineda FNP, MSN, Instructor
Lisa Pineda is a nurse practitioner at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She received her Master’s Degree in Perinatal Nursing from UCSF and her Post Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from San Francisco State University. Prior to her advanced degrees she worked as a labor and delivery nurse. She enjoys educating couples on the birth process and has a strong interest in maternal and women’s health. She is married with two young sons and enjoys “just being a mom.” She teaches our Childbirth Preparation Class.
Dawn Campagnola, RYT, MFTI, Prenatal Yoga Instructor
Dawn has been a student of yoga for the last 17 years. She obtained her first 200 hour teacher training in 2002 and has been teaching both group and private yoga classes regularly since then. In addition to her Hatha yoga certification in 2002, she has continued her studies and obtained a second 200 hour training in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan in 2004, as well as the receiving certification in the KRI trained 100 hour Conscious Pregnancy Prenatal Yoga training in 2007. When she is not teaching Prenatal yoga classes at DayOne, she is working towards licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California.
Dr Janesta Noland, MD, Instructor
After completing her residency at Stanford, Janesta joined the Menlo Medical Clinic where she has practiced since 2000. While growing a thriving pediatric practice, she was also growing a small but very vocal family. Her children are 6, 5 and 2. In addition to professional and family life, Janesta volunteers her time as the medical consultant and a parent participant for GeoKids and as a camp pediatrician for The Painted Turtle, a camp for children with medical needs. For the past 5 years, she has been an elected member of the Medical Board of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and she also participates in LPCH's Peer Review Committee and Care Improvement Committee. She is recomended by Dr. Sears on his "Vaccine Friendly Doctor's list", and teaches the "All About Vaccines" workshop at DayOne.
Kim Gustavson MA, Instructor
Kim has a Master's Degree in Education from San Jose State, a CA Teaching Credential from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a BA in Psychology from Ithaca College, an AFAA Advanced Personal Trainer Certification and she is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer/ AFAA Aerobic Instructor. She spcializes in Pre/Post Natal Fitness for people of all ages and fitness levels. She teaches Mom and Baby Fitness class at DayOne.
Karen Pollak, Instructor
Karen Pollak is the founder of DoubleTalk; A Resource for New Parents of Twins and Babies2Sleep, a baby sleep coaching service. For the past decade Karen has provided support and education to expectant and new parents through classes, workshops and private consultations throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Karen teaches the "Let's Talk About Sleep" and "Preparing for Multiples" seminars at DayOne along with the drop-in group for new parents of twins. Karen is the mother of three wonderful sons, including fraternal twins.
Anne Sinha OT, Instructor
Anne Sinha is a pediatric occupational therapist (OT) currently working at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. She received her graduate degree from Samuel Merritt College in 1999 and for the last 10 years she has worked with pediatrics ages 0-21 in various settings: schools, pediatric clinics, parents' homes of infants 0-3 years and in the hospital. Her work with children of various ages has reinforced her conviction in the importance of helping infants develop strong motor skills and reach their developmental milestone and that early motor skill development sets the foundation for effective learning, physical coordination and enhances communication and social interactions. In her spare time she enjoys adventures with her husband and son, reads, enjoy nature, and practices yoga and breathing techniques. She teaches the Motor Development workshop.

Cathy Denny, Store Manager
Linda Brooks R.N., I.B.C.L.C, Lactation Consultant
Linda is an RN with over 20 years experience in maternal child nursing. She began her career as a neonatal intensive care nurse at UC Davis Medical Center and has been at the birth of hundreds of babies. After training at the University of San Diego, Linda became a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant and was a leader in establishing a world-class lactation program at the Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Before joining DayOne, Linda was a Lactation Consultant at John Muir hospital and the Walnut Creek Women’s Health Center, where she earned great praise for her knowledge and personable, non-judgmental manner.
Linda is delighted to work at DayOne, a place that feels like a second home, where “you can just drop in anytime for a quick diaper change or feel comfortable staying all day to chat with other mothers.” At DayOne, Linda facilitates the breastfeeding support group, several new parents groups, the prenatal breastfeeding class, and sees new parents for one-on-one lactation consultations. Linda lives in Alamo with her husband Mike and has 2 children in college.
Lia Johanson, Education Coordinator, Facilitator
Lia received her Bachelors degree in Child and Family Development from San Diego State University. Being a native of the East Bay, she returned and enrolled in Chapman University where she is completing her Masters degree in education with a multiple subject teaching credential. Lia was so affected by her own transition into motherhood, she was drawn to DayOne and the chance to help other new parents and young children. She facilitates the working parents group, the 6-12 group and the Baby Play group. Lia lives in San Ramon with her five and eight year old daughters.
Chrissy Jordan Smith, Instructor
Chrissy Jordan-Smith has an Associates degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. She loves teaching parents that they do not need to be musicians to share music and all its developmental benefits with their little ones. Chrissy is passionate about children, music, and dance and has always incorporated all three in her life. She is the proud mother of two small children and enjoys incorporating music in every part of their lives.Chrissy Jordan Smith teaches Musical Play.

Karen Pollak, Instructor

Shannon Jorgensen, Instructor
Shannon Jorgensen, an associate of Touch Blue Sky's baby sign language program, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Chapman University and has completed coursework for her graduate degree in education. Shannon studied ASL at Diablo Valley College. After experiencing firsthand the importance of baby sign language through interacting with her hearing son, she became a baby sign language instructor for Touch Blue Sky's East Bay Region. Shannon is dedicated to educating parents and parents-to-be how to easily integrate sign language into their already busy lives and have fun doing it.
Stephanie Orloff, RN, FNP, MSN
Stephanie received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco. She has worked as a FNP in Women’s Health for 4 ½ years before taking her current position as a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery at Kaiser San Francisco. Stephanie enjoys teaching expectant parents about pregnancy and their amazing newborn. She lives in Oakland with her husband and they are expecting their first child in September.
Sandi Smith-Grove, Instructor
Sandi is a Licensed Midwife, Certified Childbirth Instructor (ICEA), and Certified Lactation Educator with over 17 years of experience working with birthing families. She recently retired from her home birth practice to focus on her love of educating families in all thing birth related. She is married and the parent of 2 college students. Sandi currently teaches to Childbirth Preparation class at DayOne.
Mary Kate Harazin, Instructor
Mary Kate Harazin is a full time mom to her toddler son, Cade. She began practicing baby yoga with him when he was an infant and decided to become an instructor so that others in the community could benefit from the practice of yoga with their child. She is certified by Itsy Bitsy Yoga for babies and tots.
Angela Imhoff, RYT, CMT, Instructor
Angela has a Masters of Fine Arts degree in dance and relocated to the Bay Area in January of 2009 from New York City. She has been teaching yoga since 2005 and working with prenatal women as a massage therapist since 1997. In December 2007 she gave birth to her first child and is continually in awe of the changes a body goes through during pregnancy, birth and beyond. Her teaching is informed by her training in multiple somatic disciplines including theraputic massage, craniosacral therapy, Body-Mind Centering and Laban Movement Analysis. She teaches Prenatal Yoga at DayOne Center.
Lisa Eiben, Instructor
Lisa has a Master's in Child Development and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Certified Instructor of Infant Massage. She has a passion and strong committment to helping children and families during the foundational first years of a child's life. Eight years ago she sought out infant massage as another way to support the parent child relationship and promote positive child development and has been having a great time instructing both Moms and Dads in Infant Massage. She combines all of her knowledge and experience to help parents and infants receive the many benefits of infant massage in a supportive and fun environment.
